Week 12 Round-Up - In The Lap Of The (Poll) Gods

SEP 17 - Aaron Mullan

Fri 13 Sep

Jazz/Game/Flash – Group D

Sail Away Sweet Sister caught Dreamer’s Ball sleeping (46-35) but the tighter than expected win still leaves SASS in third place on vote difference to Dreamer’s Ball. Meanwhile, Another One Bites The Dust eased to victory over Jazz deep cut Jealousy (62-19) and tops the group going into the final group games.

Jazz/Game/Flash – Group E

It started it so well for Save Me and so it continues for the May masterpiece, this time thumping Leaving Home Ain’t Easy (77-4). More Of That Jazz medleyed it’s way to a win over Don’t Try Suicide (45-36), but both songs are uninspired and lonely at the base of JGF Grp E.

Miracle/Innuendo/MIH – Group D

Was It All Worth It continued to serve it’s purpose, putting a dampener on It’s A Beautiful Day’s forecast (75-6). The same scoreline shook The Himan to the ground as I Want It All followed the game plan to top MIM Grp D.

Miracle/Innuendo/MIH – Group E

I Was Born To Love You was frozen out by A Winter’s Tale (43-38) but Bijou rounded off the penultimate group games (a 61-20 winner over Rain Must Fall) and could still sparkle in the final group game with much still to play for in MIM Grp E.

The final group fixtures are now pending (the first batch is set for Fri 20 Sep – Sun 22 Sep) with plenty to be decided across each and every group:

Friday 20 September

One/Two/SHA – Group A: The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke and White Queen (As It Began) are confirmed as the top two, but the automatic qualifying place will be decided as the Queen II behemoths square up.

One/Two/SHA – Group B: A similar situation is set to be played out in OTS Grp B, but March Of The Black Queen will surely reign and rule over In The Lap Of The Gods…Revisited in a final week showdown.

One/Two/SHA – Group C: Killer Queen is all but confirmed as the automatic qualifier in OTS Grp C, whilst Ogre Battle shouldn’t have much of a fight on it’s hands against Father To Son to secure a playoff place.

One/Two/SHA – Group D: Liar only needs to avoid defeat against Nevermore to confirm top spot. Elsewhere Flick Of The Wrist plays The Night Comes Down needing a draw to claim the runner-up place – will the newly-released 2024 TNCD mix mesmerize FOTW and allow My Fairy King to settle in a playoff spot?

One/Two/SHA – Group E: Barring a monumental turnaround in the final group games, Now I’m Here and Great King Rat will be confirmed as qualifier and playoff respectively.

One/Two/SHA – Group F: OTS Grp F is two from three in the final group round. Seven Seas Of Rhye (top with 12pts) plays second-placed Stone Cold Crazy (9pts), but Brighton Rock  could compromise either songs’ position via an almighty win over Jesus.

Night/Day/News – Group A: Bohemian Rhapsody and Love Of My Life have predictably claimed the top two places in NDN Grp A, but can LOML break the heart of Bo Rhap to claim top place in the group?

Night/Day/News – Group B: An intriguing final day battle between It’s Late and We Will Rock You will define NDN Grp B. A win or draw for It’s Late will see it top the group and The Prophet’s Song claiming runner up spot. A win for We Will Rock You will see it in first, second or eliminated…depending on the margin of any victory!

Night/Day/News – Group C: An expected win for Death On Two Legs (over Get Down, Make Love) will secure an automatic qualifying place for the menacing Mercury missive. However, We Are The Champions must hold off You Take My Breath Away to claim the playoff spot…Sophie’s Choice had nothing on this painful pick.

Night/Day/News – Group D: With all others also-rans, Somebody To Love (currently in pole position via vote difference) and My Melancholy Blues square up to decide the automatic qualifying place…voting against either song should be a criminal offence! #damnyoukevinbrown

Night/Day/News – Group E: Spread Your Wings is flying high and set to confirm top place in NDN Grp E, leaving You’re My Best Friend only needing a draw against Sheer Heart Attack to claim runner-up spot. Despite that, SHA can still mathematically qualify…surely not?

Night/Day/News – Group F: NDN Grp F is going to form with The Millionaire Waltz looking quids-in to claim the automatic qualifying place, whilst Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy will surely rebuff Fight From The Inside’s late challenge for second spot.

Saturday 21 September

Jazz/Game/Flash – Group A: Everything comes down to the final group games in JGF Grp A as Fat Bottomed Girls will secure top spot with a win or a draw against currently third-placed Rock It (Prime Jive). However, a Rock It (yeah?) victory would see the Taylor tune get some of that prime jive in first or second place depending on margin of victory and how Crazy Little Thing Called Love fares (cool and relaxed for a top two finish?).

Jazz/Game/Flash – Group B: Don’t Stop Me Now is having a real good time in JGF Grp B and is likely to be no stopping it gaining first place in the group. However, things are tighter for second spot as encumbent Play The Game could conceivably lose out to The Hero and allow Dead On Time or The Hero to overcome – vote difference could be vital.

Jazz/Game/Flash – Group C: JGF Grp C is set to finish predictably (Dragon Attack 1st, Bicycle Race 2nd) – only a thing of the impossible (Flash’s Theme defeating Dragon Attack coupled with Bicycle Race pipped at the line by In Only Seven Days) can change this.

Jazz/Game/Flash – Group D: Even relying on vote difference alone Another One Bites the Dust looks secure at the top of JGF Grp D. That leaves Dreamer’s Ball and Sail Away Sweet Sister battling it out for the runner-up place – Dreamer’s Ball unfortunately (and ironically) has the nightmare scenario of having to defeat AOBTD to stay in the game!

Jazz/Game/Flash – Group E:  Save Me is set to top JGF Grp E (only a catastrophic defeat to More Of That Jazz can change that – not even Roger Taylor has heard that line before!). Elsewhere, a predictable win for Let Me Entertain You (over Don’t Try Suicide) will secure a backstage pass and second place in the group.
